Say hello to the basis for my new "okay, you've pulled into the garage far enough" system.

Somewhere in North America an intersection is missing pedestrian crossing light.

For when you undoubtedly pull too far.

id snip some leads while he wasn't home, so he'd get the Shocker in his garage.

What do you use for distance sensing? I really want to do something similar with a large surplus device (traffic light or whatever)

Actually, this sensor is just similar to the safety sensors on a garage door. It shoots a beam of light to a reflector and a switch controls whether something happens when the beam is broken or when it's whole. In my case, the light will be off as long as the beam is broken, then turn on once the vehicle has passed.

Interesting, check out PING))) sensors if you want analog feedback on distance. Also where did you get the light?

Ugh, I hate to say this for something that looks so cool, but that's not going to fail safely. Here we go, me being an arse:
You drive forward, break the beam, and the lamp fails. You keep driving forward because you trust the system, and smash something.
Really you need a "keep going" light as well that lights when you drive into the garage, then extinguishes (sorry, goes out ) when you're at the right place.
So now you all you need to do is to steal* the little walking man sign as well!
* yeah I know you bought it

those are interesting! Probably a bit complex for now, but definitely something to think about.
I got the light off eBay. Works off standard household current too!
